The moment we are living; THIS one. Right now. It’s never been. YOU”VE never been the iteration of you that you are, now. Here. Imagine that. Oh, the possibility. Oh, the opportunity. I know there is a lot of use of the phrase “unprecedented times”, that’s not what I mean. What I am inviting us to pull focus towards right now, in the moment that you are reading these words, is who, what is now. Here. You.
I had the good luck to wander through some safe + carefully curated darkness + light on the UT campus this week at an art installation. It was created by Andrew Schneider, it’s called N O W I S W H E N W E A R E. Folks, it moved me. Thanks for bringing me to this show, Mom. It was really profound.
I can’t stop thinking…….
What if we let it all go? What if what we did? What if what we are expected to do is to be where we are. What if we were not expected to be focused on where we think we are heading (what audacity, what confidence). What if we metabolized where, who we’ve been (how does carrying the shame, fear, guilt, anger, serve you? really?) and turn those lessons, those gifts, towards the moment we are meeting. Now. What if what was expected, what was “normal”, was to be in the moment we are in. The you you are right now is enough. Imagine that.
What if we trusted ourselves and others enough in our capacities to make choices for the joy, health, betterment of us all? What if we just did that. Like, right now. What if we normalized THAT? What kind of wonder, joy, health, innovation, care might we co-create? What if we sought out experiences and offered others the same of being safe, loved, lifted, seen, heard, celebrated, delighted in, and held? What if that, now, was how we met this life? This moment? And the next? And the next?
We’ve never been here. We’ve never been now. You’ve never been THIS you. What will YOU do with it, with you, now that you are?
I will care. I will give. I will forgive. I will accept. I will see. I will slow down. I will listen. I will show up. I will rest. I will resist. I will cry. I will look at the sky. I will feel the grass on my toes. I will linger in a hug. I will chew slowly, savoring. I will drink, deeply. I will repair. I will love. I will dance. I will laugh. I will say yes. I will say no. I will I will I will I will I will I will.
Will you?
